User Research is an extremely significant aspect of technology and innovation for the SMMEs within the developing economies. The User Research as an emerging discipline is critical in creating innovative ideas to build jobs of the future. This includes providing support for the implementation of sound design and development process based on user experience design philosophy.
The adoption of User Research as a discipline to generate ideas, make inform the decision, and further influence the direction of user experience design thinking is key for SMMEs to create sustainable and profitable business models. Utilising scarce funds on consultations and research to support critical design and development phases may seem a non-viable approach for SMMEs.
Therefore, User Research Institute’s recommendation to the SMME community is to consider building relationships and partnerships with Tech Hobbyists, Freelancers or Small players in the industry sector. This approach will enable the SMME community to address the required expertise during the design and development of new products to the market. The proper establishment of these kinds of relationships and partnerships have a potential to build a lasting and viable approach for the creation of innovative product without spending scarce funds on building the required expertise for the new entrants to the SMME marketplace.
